Mr Best laid plans bumps into Mr Reality

2008 starts. I will stop smoking, get fit. Lose a bit of weight too. Take regular exercise. I will achieve a Zen like work-life balance and be the envy of friend, stranger and foe. Maybe not.

What actually happened. I got the results of some tests, thought it best to take it easy on the drink. I haven’t had a cigarette since the early hours of the year and had a total of 3 glasses of wine in the same time. No other alcohol. I have given up my soft tipple of choice, Diet Coke, and replaced it with bottled water. I’ve been eating less processed and fast food, more clean, pure healthy food,  much more fruit than I used to.

The results so far. I have had 2 separate bouts of cold. Current one has lasted about a week, all the normal symptoms. My lungs have been coughed inside-out and are currently dangling over my left shoulder. My nose decides to bleed at random intervals each day. My fitness training, in the short interval I was healthy enough to start it stopped almost as abruptly when something in my calf took offence to 2 minutes of girly-speed running. I’ve felt very tired though at the same time have been unable to grab sleep. Mentally I feel just as drained as I do physically.

Is someone trying to tell me something?

6 more weeks. I promise. After 6 more weeks you’ll be super-human. Right now your body is not agreeing with your resolutions. You can’t talk reason with your body. Physical punishment is the only thing it comprehends.

    It is a marathon sadly.

Are you having any crazy, crazy dreams? Seems to be a serious side effect from my resolutions.

It’s punishing ME Sarah, and winning.

Laoch, it bloody isn’t. It’s 3 miles but it WILL seem like a marathon.

sheepworrier, yes. So please change your resolutions. There’s no point in me having bad dreams because of what YOU have resolved to do. I’ve got enough trouble.

Seriously, the worst mornings I have are those AFTER I go home, eat right, and go to bed early. Our systems are obviously too fine-tuned for healthy living.

I’ll be round in 20 minutes with 40 fags and a bottle of whiskey…….and some smokes too……
