The latest version of the open source operating system Ubuntu has just been released. It’s free. It’s complete with web browser, office software, calendar and email managers etc. You can download it here. It’s a Unix based operating system (like Mac) and runs more efficiently and securely than Windows. There are hundreds of free software applications available for it including photo editing tools like Picasa and GIMP plus applications for just about anything you need.
New to this version is the ability to install the operating system inside Windows as if it’s just another program. This means you can try Ubuntu without risking overwriting any of your current Windows installation or data. Of course you can also install it over Windows if you want or alongside it to give you a choice of operating systems to boot from. All choices are catered for. If you haven’t already tried it I recommend installing it within Windows and taking it for a test drive.

GIMP is the best……so much easier to use than potatoshop……
GIMP makes me dizzy just looking at it. WTF are all those windows doing randomly scattered about the place? If they made it more “normal” 10 times as many people would use it, perhaps me included. The price is better though.
The newest version of GIMP ( >= 2.6.1 ) improved the interface. now, it can almost look like photoshop. http://gimp.org/screenshots/alternative-2-6-ui-layout-example-two.jpg
Thanks CJ, I’ll take a look at GIMP again. I’ll have to check out the latest Linux versions and see if they’ve got that layout too.
